ST. CATTWG'S CHURCH

Rector of the Benefice of South West Gower: The Revd. Canon Joseph
Griffin, The Rectory, Port Eynon.
House for Duty Assistant Priest: Revd. Hilary Evans. hilary@evanses.plus.com
Wardens: David Attwell and Hugh Dunthorne.
St Cattwg's church, Port Eynon is dedicated to Cattwg the Wise of Llancarfan and is thought to have been founded during the 16th century by Cattwg's missionary in Gower, St Cenydd. In 1861 the church was enlarged and restored. An unusual feature of the church is the absence of both an east or west window. The photograph below shows Port Eynon church in the 1890s.

NEWS ABOUT THE GRAVEYARD.
At a recent meeting the Rector made
the following announcement regarding the graveyard. He stated that due to the
rocky strata beneath Port Eynon churchyard,
and because of the volume of existing graves, it had been agreed that the
churchyard will be closed to all future burials in new graves, save for the
provision of
re-opening of existing family graves and the burial of cremated remains in the
Garden of Rest or in existing family graves.
NEWS ON CHURCH
RESTORATION at St.Cattwg's, Port Eynon
Latest news on the appeal restoration fund. We have recently been
awarded a grant of £10,000 by the Representative Body
of the Church in Wales. Just prior to that we were awarded £5,000 by the Gower
Society. A special leaflet has been cIrculated
for the fund appeal. If you do not have a copy do please ask for details. The appeal
fund now stands at £42,000. Of that sum, £20,750 comes from
grants awarded, £18,700 from existing church funds, and about £8.600 from
donations, though this figure is changing all the time.
CHURCH PEWS FOR SALE -
